EDM #182 -Our Truck Sue

We call our truck Sue after the dinosaur in the Chicago Field Museum. She is a Ford F350 crew cab long bed.; twenty-one feet of power. I chose an angle I felt made her look sort of in your face. I will probably try for another one of the side view. The first one ran off the paper :)

EDM #181 Trashcan

This is the evil trashcan at the Oregon Zoo that I tried during two concerts this week to draw. This unbelievably is my best effort. I think I will be looking for a friendlier receptacle to try again.

What I did with my Ear

So I decided to use my EDM drawing for a shirt I had been working on in Cafe Press. This one is for all of the mothers out there. The link to the shop is at the top of the sidebar if you want to check out my other weird ideas.

EDM # 79

Ears are very strange parts of the body. The more I worked on this the odder it seemed, but since I need to put an ear into one of my shirts this was a good start for understanding what the parts of an ear look like.

Font Fun

This design and the one that follows were done for t-shirts on my Urban Signz store on Cafe Press. Typography is one of my true passions and poking fun at it is a hoot.

EDM #36-Draw in Public

Well, I consider this a step forward for me. I am super anal about my work and have had problems with perfectionism stopping my forward progress. This is certainly not a great drawing, but it has a lively line quality that appeals to me. After a bad thing happening (don't take a Ford F350 longbed through drive through if you like your paint job) it was fun to go to the Oregon Zoo concert, listen to jazz and nervously draw in public for the first time in a very long time. Thanks EDM for the push to do all of these wonderful challenges.

First shirt drawing

This is the first drawing of my own making that I have used on my shirts at Urban Signz in Cafe Press. It was a pencil drawing that I made starker in Illustrator. I think it is appropriately grungy for the piece. Feels like a milestone to me. As much as I love fonts, it is a kick to see something you drew on a shirt.

Haven't quite gotten to an EDM challenge yet today and soon I will be off to the acupuncturist which usually wipes me out. It is hard getting old, everything hurts and I gave myself tennis elbow playing Guitar Hero (my bad). Since I need that arm to make a living I have cut down on gaming which gives me more time for art I guess.

I want to thank everyone over at EDM who gave me such a warm welcome yesterday. The group makes me want to improve and do more every day.

Finally EDM #1

I have finally got this blog up and running. I plan on using this to show my progress at re-learning to draw as well as showing some of the other art I am pursuing. I got a Master's in Art a long time ago and then went into photography and then into hi-tech and Photoshop; eventually ending up teaching at Clark College here in Vancouver, WA.

My passions are typography, graffiti, lowbrow art and gaming. I realized that in order to do the work I wanted to do in my t-shirts and other artwork I needed to get my chops back. When I discovered the wonderful people at the Everyday Matters forum, I knew they would provide the sort of kick in the rear I need. So I am starting at challenge #1 and working my way through.
